But mostly Tim. I've worked in school admininistrations too (and I can't believe I want to actually go to school to become a teacher, but there it is). The school I went to actually had it right, they sent out permission notes to parents and anyone who didn't want their kids going through the program (it was only an hour long) got to work on other homework. I didn't do the program because my mom showed me this animated cartoon when I was 4 called "Where did I come from..." Scared me so bad I didn't have sex till I was 24. But on school administrations given the power of "the best interests of the child" over the parents, I take huge issue. My mother had to sit through an intense rebuking by my schools principal and my brother's teacher about my brothers behavior and the fact that he was "clearly ADHD and suffering from fetal alchohol syndrome," and then got the pleasure of watching their faces as she explained that Eric is adopted and that his paternal family went through this same school system and had the same bad record, and yet never had to deal with this kind of discrimination. That was a fun lawsuit actually. But they had abstinence only programs in High School too in the form of "promise rings," and were never administered by the school but local churches. And I didn't really think that was a big deal... In our whole class of 450 only 2 girls got pregnant. But then again 43% of the females had an STD... And as for the girls with the promise rings, in recollection, it seemed as though that wasn't really their choice... But as far as these myths go, they certainly aren't new. I dunno where bleach came in, I mean my god how much common sense do you have to lack to believe that... But the Mountain Dew myth ran really strong in my High School, and I graduated in 97.
