  1. Matt from Melbourne Says:

    What?? No!!!!!

  2. Keith from Chicago Says:

    Holy crap. All good things…

In any case, thanks for the years of entertainment. I still have the other farpoint shows, but I’ll miss WI.

I’m glad I got to visit the madness in person before the end. Take it easy all.

  3. Barry from Athens Says:

Say it ain’t so! It’s just a joke, right?

  4. Bronzethumb (from Australia) Says:

    Shit.

  5. Shane from Sydney Says:

Missed the live feed this morning so if it is true RIP WI3D… long live Winin’ It Wingin’ it…?

  6. Zhadum Says:

Might as well burn the IPOD then. No Wingin It, no use for it.

All of my favorite shows are ending now. Whats a geek to do?

  7. Mr. Sim Says:

I know what you mean Zhadum I listened to Technorama too

  8. Gary Says:

    Ah, hell!!!!

I’m sure you guys had your reasons, but I’m really not happy right now.

Brown, if your pulling a joke this time, there will be payback!!

  9. Alanfromtheuk Says:

It’s been a great couple of years, listening in on the live feed. I’m going to have to find something else to do on Saturdays now.

Thanks for the fun memories guys.

  10. Michael Mennenga Says:

Don’t get too carried away folks. We have stopped new recordings, but the show is going to be around for quite a while yet. I’ve been going through the archives and am digging up a LOT of really cool stuff that most of you have never heard. The last LIVE recording of WI happens at the Fool Party, but who knows how long content may flow under the WI feed.
Hang in there… This is getting interesting.

  11. Warlord2k Says:

    Find the tar and feathers:P

  12. Doug in Alaska Says:

Don’t burn it. That iPod still has value to someone else, if it no longer holds value for you.

This must be what it feels like to lose a kid. I was listening to Slice when WI was a 5 min free talk at the end, then beer was added and it grew form there. Now it’s gone, and I said something too late… It’s been what? 3 years? Feels like a life time…

    :(

  13. Doug in Alaska Says:

Oh, well, at least we get something to be weaned off with…

    Still hurts though.

  14. Zhadum Says:

But I was fixing to send them beer from micro brewery that is here if Fort Worth. Now I guess I will have to drink it all by myself.

Fixing to start building the funeral pyre in the fire place for the IPOD.

  15. Gary Says:

Mike does that mean no Special Edition Wingin It from Dragon Con this year?

  16. Dubshack Says:

Well… I’ll say this. There are a lot of other WI knockoffs in Farpoint Media, and none that I know of that drink. But despite his gluten intolerance, there is one show and one podcaster that may be taking on a co-host, and there may be beer involved. :)

So don’t loose hope yet people. By the sound of things… for all we know another WI knockoff could be born in Second Life. :)

  17. Brian Says:

    Gary – *evil laughter*

Doug – 4+ years really. You’ll hear it on Tuesday. Mike gets all nostalgic and long winded. ;)

Zhadum – You mean they have more then just Lonestar?? GET A ROPE!

Gary – No plans on any WI at D*C.

Shane – THANK YOU VERY MUCH! We got the package yesterday. Mike, Tim and I enjoyed a bit of the treats. :)

Dub – Your evil. Giving these people false hope again! Just like you did yesterday in the chat room! EVIL!

  18. The Ranting Scotsman Says:

Gary – Mike isn’t even planning to attend D*C this year, or at least that was the plan earlier this year. But you never know

Brian – Dub might be right, doesn’t need to be called Wingin’ It but you never know what might fill the void

  19. tim and darcy low Says:

Come on guys, Mike and them do what; twelve plus podcasts? Let them have one day off for god’s sake. There are other podcasts still.

    Tim

Besides we just had the trees here trimmed back. I don’t feel like climbing just for a hanging. Might freak the neighbors. Trying to sell houses these days are hard enough as it is.

  20. tim and darcy low Says:

On the other hand it would make for a funny video if Brian braided his hair and wore a viking helm. Singing the last days of winging it or some such.

    Just a thought.

    Tim

  21. fred Says:

    Spear and magic helmet!

  22. Crazy Chris Says:

this is a joke announcement. it just has to be… what am i gonna do for the ride to work now?

  23. Crazy Chris Says:

why are you doing this to us… is it something we said? something we did?

  24. AndyMac (Odessa, MO) Says:

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I know I was a few episodes behind but I promise I will do better!

  25. Doug in Alaska Says:

No, it’s collective stress. Wi3d is the third distinct variation of WI. Think about it. The feed is up for 1.5-2 hours(sometimes longer in the early years), but there is travel time(wih gas prices as they are…), prep time, bandwidth costs, and since WI started as a 5 min wind down segment on Slice(before it was picked up by XM) we have lost 1 cast member to cancer, one to schedule(I’m kinda surprised Summer is still alive…) and another to tension(Evo).

I think I nailed it in my VM last week. As I posted earlier, I have seen WI’s birth, it’s peak and now it’s decline.

    Spear and magic helmet!

    lol. fred FTW

  27. Scott Hough Says:

Well this sucks. But at least I have more flexibility. I was looking for a job where I had Saturdays off so I could get op to Phoenix once a month or so. Oh well, I’ll probably still use Saturday to get together with my friend in Ireland to record the Gatecast. We as fans should be happy Wingin it came back after M&E WI ended. Maybe we as listeners can get together on Skype once in a while and record something and mayne Mike will toss it on the feed.

  28. Trucker Overdrive Says:

Nooooooo….. Dammmmnnnnnn YOuuuuuuu all to HELLLL!!!!! My life is over……

Oh wait there another podcast… See you guys when you get bore again. Wingin it in the 4th dimention. ;-)

  29. Tim From Iowa Says:

I want to copy what most of the posters here are saying, NOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will youse guys still be accepting listener made content and voice mail to put on the podcast?

  30. ClockworkDragon Says:

Thank you Michael and crew for all the laughs you have brought us over the years. Nothing made me happier then when I could bring you a chuckle or two in return. I know it’s time to quit when the laughter stops and I wish you well in the new and great entertainments to come. You have become our extended geeky family and your collective voices will be missed. Here’s one last drink of the day to all of you and one root beer to the one who did not see this journey’s end.

  31. Arkle Says:

Wow. I’m actually glad now that I just watched the worst movie ever, because compared to the psychological trauma caused by that so-bad-it-makes-Uwe-Boll-look-a-genius flick, losing Wingin’ It really doesn’t seem like such a big deal.

I’ll still miss it though, and I’m sad I never got the chance to pitch a topic.

  32. Dan From Tucson Says:

    wha… but.. i…… you… *sigh*

but seriously, thank you for the happiness, the laughs, and the awesome geeky familyness you had become. You guys are awesome.

  33. Shane from Sydney Says:

But if we hear one of you complaining about the cancellation of one of your favorite TV shows now I’ll…..

Brian, glad you and the guys enjoyed the VCs and stuff.

PS. Kill Slice or C2C we come looking for you…. ;-)

  34. Zhadum Says:

Has Fox taken over FPM????? Two of my favorite shows on FPM have been canceled.

  35. Lowell in Columbus Says:

The 4th dimension will be the video dimension – “Don’t adjust your set. . . We control the horizontal. . . ”

Seriouisly – I will miss listening and trying to think up topics for the show.

  36. Shaded Spriter Says:

Does this mean a cancelled Fool party? Or is it like you said once Farpoint Fool Party not Wingin’ it fool Party?

  37. Michael Mennenga Says:

    Wow…

    1) Doug… Wingin’ It! was born from the Dragon Page Between show that we started doing after the Dragon Page Live Fire show we did on KFYI talk radio here in Phoenix. Slice of Scifi came after that. Not sure where you came up with the 5 min bit. ;-)

    2) The Fool Party is still on. All questions will be answered on the next show EP#38

    3) I may be at Dragon Con, but there will be no Wingin’ It’ Live, however, Slice of Scifi will be done live at Dragon Con.

    4) No… This is not a joke. No Wingin’ It! 4D or any other BS like that. I’m not playing with anyone this time. This show has sucked the life out of me, I cannot afford it anymore. I tell ya, we did not talk about money in the last episode, but the cost of doing Wingin’ It1 is staggering. Not only in money, but time.

    5) NOTHING ELSE CHANGES! We are only giving up Wingin’ it! All the other shows, and Farpoint Media, stay exactly the same. We are not going away, we are not shutting down FPM, we are not going bankrupt. (Wow, the speculation gets wild fast. ;-) We just can’t do this show anymore.

    6) The show is not over yet. You still have content coming to you till well after the Fool Party. I would say by Late July the content may run out, but who knows. We are just not recording anything new (With the exception of the Fool Party.) I still have a lot of stuff to send down the feed.

Ok… Hope that gives you some answers this morning. ;-)

  38. Indiana Jim Says:

Hey Mike. It’s a tough call to end something you had fun doing, and gave a lot of fun to other folks.

Objectively speaking, the life was sucked out of you, and I think the show had life sucked out if it as well. You can tell when it’s not fun anymore.

  39. ditto Says:

Thanks for all your hard work, Mike, and the rest of the WI crew. WI in it’s many incarnations has been great fun. Sometimes, though, you have to take a step back, reassess things, and then take care of yourself. You certainly do deserve a day to yourself, Mike.

  40. NoblePeon Says:

    Wow …

    I like Turtles!

I think I nailed it in my VM last week. As I posted earlier, I have seen WI’s birth, it’s peak and now it’s decline.

damn it doug, this is all your fault, you put this seed thought in his head and it has now taken hold and bears fruit!!!

  42. Doug in Alaska Says:

No, I just happened to say something at the snapping point. If I hadn’t sent the vm, it just might have happened that episode, or very shortly after.

Mike: I remember coming on board, so to speak, when it was at the tail end of slice. So, assuming I have missed half of WI(including kfyi stuff), I still feel old.

  43. Zhadum Says:

Is Doug in Alaska the harbinger of DOOM?

  44. RapidEye Says:

    Damn guys….
Been listening for a few years now and have followed the different gyrations the show has taken. I’m sorry to see it leave the ether, but I’d rather see it end on its own accord (similar to the original PodFade that was started about this time last year) than watch it slip away into the crapper.

I was there when the KAMN got their name on WI (was it 4yrs ago?), I was there when the KAMN got their first preapproved credit card (LOL), I was there to see one of the Ninja’s fall, I was there to see one of the cofounders leave, and now I can say I was there to see it all end.

K fom Kal, Jimmy from Denver, Andrea Smarty Hotty, Dani in NC, Deadpan Jack, Charlie the Beer Guy, Moose, and all the rest of the old tymers – its been fun. Thanks for all of the laughs!!!

    ~(RE)~

  45. Michael Mennenga Says:

    @Doug.
Ya know… I do remember doing something on Slice….
Listen to Next week’s show. You’ll hear the show that really started WI. However, I’m not sure if that happened before slice or after…. You got me digging now. ;-)

  46. CarrieP Says:

A little bummed, but not surprised. You guys didn’t seem to ever get in a good rhythm for the new show–well, other than the rap.

Was preparing myself for this for a while.

Personally, I would have preferred you to say something on the show, and not just the live feed, then posting something on the WI site. But whatever.

  47. Lejon from Chandler Says:

Wow. Ok, I’ll step back a second… Wow.
The site has a comments section!
    I never noticed that before.

All this time I’ve been calling into the listener line, and there’s a COMMENTS SECTION?!? Man, I could have looked a whole lot less stupid…

It’s a good thing I found it before the show ended… AW CRAP!

  48. CarrieP Says:

Oops. Stupid me for not reading all the posts. I see that there will be a ‘final’ ep 38, and that the post on the blog was actually a courtesy, and to clear up things from what was on the live feed.

Sorry about my assumption. I will definitely miss you guys, but you gotta do what you gotta do, what will make you happy and keep you sane.

  49. Doug in Alaska Says:

mike: iirc(and my memory is a little fuzzy)I heard you say slice of scifi was originally slice of dragon(from kfyi) and evolved into the hour long show(and 1.5, eventually). WI came about as a 5 min free talk section at the end of slice that got longer and longer.

  50. Nic from Brisbane Says:

Damn, dude. I’m gonna miss this. Much as I like Slice and Cover to Cover, there’s something about the entirely random hilarity that always appears in a WI episode that just makes me grin ruefully and wish I could visit you guys. I guess I’ll just have to make a guest appearance on Slice when I finally get to Phoenix. :(

Question, will the Farpoint Fest repeat itself next year round?

  51. edward Says:

    :( bye guys.

  52. The Ranting Scotsman Says:

CarrieP – There will be more than just one more Ep, they are doing The Best of Wingin’ It until the Pool Party and god knows what else beyond then

  53. Michael Mennenga Says:

Dragon Page Live Fire was the Live Dragon Page show we did on KFYI 550AM Talk Radio here in Phoenix. During that show, we began Slice of Scifi for the Save Enterprise Campaign. At some time during this, we began podcasting. I know that the first ever podcast episode (True podcasting with a feed and such) happened for Dragon Page (Before we called it Cover 2 Cover) Oct, 2004. Soon after that, We started doing Dragon Page Between. This was the show that started Wingin’ It!. First episode Jan 2005.
I am going to dig out all these shows and send them out on the WI feed. There is a lot of cool stuff no one has ever heard. ;-)

  54. Charlie the Beer Guy Says:

Thanks for the fun, thanks for the ride, and thanks for helping me launch my own little indulgence of a show. The WeIrd beast is finally slouching toward to Bethlehem, and I say godspeed.

Oh, and if the Magic Fridge needs a new home, I think I can be of service…

    *jumps into U-Haul*

  55. Demon_monkey Says:

did you have to do this on my birthday?

  56. gazerbeam Says:

And now, for a bit of levity. Odd that this announcement comes after an episode the welcomes Ted McGinley. I guess he really *is* a showkiller.

But seriously, I was kinda late to the Wingin’ it party, but I enjoyed every minute of it. thanks for all the laughs!

    -Alec-

  57. Big And Tasty Says:

I am very sad to see this all go. Though I don’t drink, it was entertaining to hear the drunks. Though I am a virgin, it was entertaining to hear all the innuendo and experiences. No, really. This show has been the only thing keeping me going week to week. Since the writer’s strike, my favorite shows aren’t back yet; I work 40 hours a week; I have no woman; I don’t interact with my friends outside of work. This show (particularly the live feed) was literally my only connection to the real world.

I am wondering, though. Now that Wingin’ It is dying off, will there be more appearances of listener produced material on the Slice of Sci-fi Show (if it’s geeky enough). I ask because I really am trying to produce a rap in response to Computer King and Lil Meg. I’m just making sure that once it’s made, it will actually have a venue through your shows.

Thanks for all the laughter and insults (sometimes I need put in my place).

  58. Krazy Joe aka "Cousin Oliver" Says:

    where’s my post?

  59. Krazy Joe Says:

    It was….fun.

    …OH, my….

  60. Nigel in Melbourne Says:

Bummer. But I could see the writing on the wall. Its been a fun ride.

  61. Mark From Louisville Says:

I’m saddened, if not entirely suprised. I’m listening to the explanation-cast now.

    Vaya con dios!

  62. tim and darcy low Says:

Mike and all. Get some rest, and if you need anything at all you know our number. Liked the show a great deal but also know the toll it had be taking on you all. Was a tough decision, but I think you made a good call here.

For everyone else, this is just a end to one podcast guys. These guys are doing all the other shows, plus a video podcast. So they are keeping busy. lets all still support them. And don’t give them grief over this.

    Tim and Jenny

  63. Chris Says:

Quittin’ cold turkey? A wind-down would have been nice, but I can understand why you’re doing it. Still, are two long ass frat parties a year to much to ask for? For Mike to continue doing this we need to do several things:
Have him win a $100 million dollar lottery
    Make him a time lord
Give him a mutant healing factor
Provide him with 10 techno serfs to do the grunt work

Bring some Youtube Winginit tho, an occasional dose will do us good.

    C.

  64. Michael Mennenga Says:

    Chris…
You win me the $100 million lottery and I’ll do Wingin’ It! till I die. ;-)

  65. naturat Says:

I have to say that WI3d was the high point of my podcast listening week. I looked forward to it every week and helped get through some long boring days. I will certainly miss the fun that was produced.

I also think that the lollipop of doom girl and her sultry side kick could do a pretty darn fun poscast on their own!

Well, I appreciate all that was done to have the show on the air while it lasted.

    naturat.

  66. Gazerbeam Says:

    Mike,
Deal! I ever win a massive Powerball, I’m so going to be the FPM Patron :) (or SugarDaddy, whichever)

  67. Brad Bowyer Says:

Big And Tasty: if you and the others are willing Mike’s Hot Dish and The GeekSpin would love to continue the rap battles. Please start sending them our way. They would make for great content for our shows. (esp The GeekSpin)

  68. Indiana Jim Says:

You couldn’t bring back the Wine and Wingin’ It?

  69. Dickey Says:

This kinda sucks the dillson. Wingin’ It was one of the podcasts that inspired me to start podcasting (along with everyone else on the planet). It’s been fun boys and girls. Thanks for the content, and for the beer.

    >>> Provide him with 10 techno serfs to do the grunt work

LOL…..Well I know he has at least one! How else would I have wound up editing B5 and KAMN?

  72. Crazy Chris Says:

even though i hate that you ended it, i’ve listened to the live feed a few times, and i can kinda understand.it is a pain in the ass to try to get it to record at a decent volume and to make it sound good without having to get numerous mics to work, and set the levels on a mixer. thanks for the episode, and now i need a new addiction… anyone got some crack, pot or good beer.

good beer in oklahoma is hard to find, my friends drink coors lite, please help. maybee i’ll start a podcast and blatenly beg for money like mike….

  73. Dwight from Ottawa Says:

  74. Ragnar Says:

    Damn.
There go’s my goal in life, showing up on Mikes doorstep, 6-pack in hand on some random Saturday afternoon.
But I wont believe Winging It’s really dead, I’m an optimist- I’m still subscribed to pod holes!
